As we have reached the halfway mark of the season the RSA committee & officials feel it is important to remind all competitors & clubs of a few key points.

Key Points

• It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure all repairs/faults are rectified prior to scrutineering – refer SA rule 3.1.6. Log Books will be checked at scrutineering for validity and outstanding work orders. If the Log Book is presented with work orders outstanding, the Driver will be given the option of fixing the faults. If the Driver opts not to fix the faults, the Race Car concerned will not be cleared to race. The Log Book will be retained by Officials and forwarded to the secretary of the Affiliated Association or other controlling body which issued the Log Book.

• Roof Number plates – SA rule 3.6 (H) The roof plate number shall be bolted to the roof of the vehicle at an angle from the left-hand front to the right-hand wheel arch or parallel with the side of the Race Car depending on lap scoring requirements. The number shall be white numbers on a black background. Numbers ending in a “zero” such as 20, 30, 40, etc. shall not be used.

• Vehicle Identification numbers – ensure that all numbers on rear quarters/doors are at the correct size for the division that the car is nominated to race. ie. if the number will not fit on the rear quarter panel it must be moved to doors.

• Rub rails – ensure bolt locations & quantity are correct. Ensure the taper of the end of the rail is correct.

• Club prefix – Club prefix is required as part of the Vehicle Identification numbers in certain divisions as per new spec books, and will be required for all divisions from the 2022/2023 season as we work to align all books moving forward, as agreed to at the last AGM.

• Wheels & Tyres – it is vital that all competitors review and are aware of the relevant specifications regarding Wheels & Tires for the divisions that the car is nominated to run. Particular attention needs to be paid when vehicles run multiple classes due to possible differences in specifications – ie Juniors & 4 Cylinder Sedans.

• Social Media / Private Messaging / other forms of contact – RSA & Speedway Australia encourages participation in online social media in a positive manner. The accessible nature of the internet, however, can lend itself to the posting of threatening and derogatory material in the heat of the moment. Once your thoughts and comments are published to the internet they are visible to the world – and they are permanent. Speedway Australia takes all cases of threatening and derogatory behaviour seriously and will treat online matters as it would ‘real world’ bullying. Breaching the Code of Conduct or bringing the sport of Speedway into disrepute online can lead to serious consequences, including tribunals, suspensions and the cancellation of the offender’s Speedway Australia license.

• As per the correct procedure, If you are unsure of anything your first point of contact is your club, if further details are required your club will contact the RSA for further clarification. Individuals should not be contacting RSA committee members or officials directly.

Every month around the 21st, Racing Sedans eNews will publish a new edition. Each edition will be available here on our website and posts will be shared to our Facebook page to announce the latest edition.

If your club has any information that they would like included in the newsletter, maybe about upcoming events that include RSA divisions or something about fundraising or special events such as presentations, please feel free to email them into me here at Racing Sedans eNews and I will do my utmost to get them into the next edition. In the future, I will include the results of our titles as they are run and won. Photos and race results from our clubs are also welcomed and I will do all I can to include them whenever possible.

The committee would like to bring to all members’ attention that the only official specification books that are legal are the books that are on the RSA website.

If you have a hard copy and it is different to the online version then your hard copy is NOT an official copy. The only changes that will be made to a specification book during the season will be wording, grammar and safety items.

This applies to all RSA divisions.

Words from the
"RSA Tech Committee"

The Tech Committee has been working hard to clarify, streamline and standardise specification books. As you can appreciate this is an exceptionally long and difficult task. Major specification changes still need to be submitted at the appropriate time and voted on by the members following due process. The Tech Committee can only make changes to safety specifications and typographical errors.

We cannot just make changes without investigating the full implications of any proposed changes. We have managed to work through several rules/specification clarifications which have been communicated through various methods over the past few months. Some of reoccurring issues/questions that continue to be raised that will be addressed in this release.

But please take note that at any time while this process is being undertaken or at any time at all, the ONLY official version of any of the divisions’ specification books are those found on our website!

• Roof Numbers

As per all class specifications (except Division 5A Outlaw Sedans) roof numbers are to be White numbers on Black background on a plate 300mm x 300mm only. There has been an increasing number of no compliant roof numbers brought to our attention this season, and these all need to be rectified. The only acceptable roof numbers are to be Plain White numbers on a Black background. This means NO SHADOWING, NO COLOUR SURROUNDS. The only acceptable addition to the roof number plate is the cars registered club or town. i.e. club prefix Grafton = “GRA”, club prefix for NEWCASTLE = “NSSC” etc, this is to be kept to a minimum size as not to impact the car number.

• Safety Apparel / Equipment

All drivers are responsible for their own safety apparel/equipment and must ensure that it is current, in good order and used at all times. Not only is this a Speedway Australia enforceable rule, if there was any type of incident resulting in injury there is the possibility of the loss on insurance cover.

• Seatbelts

Seatbelts that are not within date, meaning expired or not stamped/punched with date of purchase will not be accepted. If a car presents to scrutineering with belts that are not stamped/punched the cars should not be passed to race until at a time they have belts that are stamped/punched.

• Helmets

As per previous release helmets carrying the UN ECE 22.05 are permitted to have the R variation. i.e. ECE R22-05. Snell SA-2010 Standard Helmets cannot be used after 1 July 2021 as they are no longer in date.

These are just a few key points that we have been working on this season, if anything is unclear, as with any questions/concerns please reach out to the committee via your clubs and we will try to answer in a timely matter. We plan to communicate all relevant questions/answers to all clubs directly and in this forum where appropriate. All names will be held back to encourage open discussions.

Upcoming State and Australian Titles

Not wanting to “count our chickens” as it were, it looks very likely that we will finally get to hold our first Title for this season. Nominations closed tonight for the RSA Fender Bender Division 2 NSW Title to be held at Gunnedah Speedway on the 6th of February.

In the next couple of months, we have scheduled, several more Titles, both State and Australian. Nominations are already open for the RSA Street Stockers Australian Title to be held at Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway on the 13th of February followed one month later with the RSA 4-Cylinder Australian Title, also at Grafton.

Also in March, we hope to hold both the RSA Outlaw Sedans Australian Title at Gunnedah Speedway on the 20th and the RSA Street Stockers NSW Title at Nowra Speedway on the 27th.

We still have 4 Titles which we had no choice but to postpone that we are now discussing with Clubs and Promoters to set down new dates.

Please rest assured that our Committee, Clubs and Tracks are doing all we can to complete our list of both postponed and scheduled Titles.

Much to do, many pieces to place, many more conversations to be had. We are working on it all!

Meet the RSA Secretary - Sue Healey

Hello to all Affiliated Clubs and Members.

Firstly, I wish to thank all the past Committee Members for their tireless work you all have done in previous years gone by and with unprecedented times with covid-19 as of last year.

I also would like to thank the New Committee for taking on your positions you elected to take on for the upcoming year. We have already had multiple meetings to discuss the future of this association. The communication between everyone is open and it is great to see these committee members getting involved.

The last year has been hard for everyone with tracks trying to run meetings with the ever-changing “health order restrictions” in NSW and QLD. I ask that everyone please be patient as we work through this unprecedented time.

A little about me!

Most Clubs and Members may know who i am but for those who do not, my Name is Sue Healey, and I was elected RSA secretary at the last AGM.

I have been retired from racing since 2016. Prior to that my first race was in an LJ Torana at my local track, Cullen Bullen Raceway back in 1991 when I was 17 years old, I started racing in the Ladies class (under ACT/NSW Motor Racing Board).

I won multiple Titles and Club Championships in the Ladies, Series Production, Super Production and 1600s classes. In 2002 with the help of my now-husband Ray Healey I stepped into RSA street stockers where we raced 2 car team at PCR every weekend, I was the first lady to win a feature race at PCR ( Sydney Speedway) in the same year I came 3rd in the then called “Sydney Street Stockers Club” Championship.

My last race was the RSA 4-cylinder Sedan NSW Title held at Tamworth Speedway in 2016 which I won.

After 25 years of racing, it was time to hang my gloves up and concentrate on our sons racing career.

What I do today!

well, I am heavily involved with the running our local track Cullen Bullen Raceway and our club PDMSC. I have been the secretary/Treasurer since 2014 and also life member, I am also the Secretary/Treasurer of the Cullen Bullen Recreation Reserve Land Manager (Crown Land reserves) which owns the land the speedway is on.

In-between these two, I am a business owner of a Mechanical workshop and towing business, so please be patient I will respond/answer you but it may not be straight away. I am also committed to helping my son’s racing career in Junior Sedans as well as Junior Formula 500s, teaching my son the craft of speedway is the best experience you could ever have.

My goals in the Future!

My goals in years to come are to leave my local speedway with a great facility and financially stable for the next secretary/treasurer to take over and hopefully keep going for another 30 years. I would also like to retire in 5 years to travel around our awesome country of ours.

I thank you for giving me the opportunity of being the Secretary of this association and hope we can take the RSA to the next level.

Belle Reaches the Top Step!

New Stars First Place for Belle Jennar

RSA New Star Junior Sedan Driver Belle Jennar achieved her best result so far in her young speedway career, finishing on the top step in her “New Stars” Junior Sedan Division recently at Hession’s Auto Parts Grafton Speedway.
Belle, soon to turn 14 y/o and about to start year nine at Oxley High in Tamworth started racing Junior Sedans in October 2019. A member of the Gunnedah Speedway Club living in Tamworth, her best previous finish was a third-place in a Feature race at Gilgandra Speedway in January 2020.
When asked why she became interested in speedway she said she got interested “after watching my Dad, Keith Urquhart, race and seeing how much fun he was having I wanted to be involved in the fun!” She might be young and at the beginning of her journey into the world of speedway but it is obvious that it is already in her blood.
Like the rest of her speedway family, she has been super frustrated and majorly disappointed by the effects Covid-19 has had this season on our sport.
I asked Belle what her speedway goals were for her future and I wasn’t surprised to hear her say “to go faster, have more confidence, win more trophies, have more fun and make lots of friends I can have something in common with“.
Belle has told me to make sure to thank her sponsor, Gordon Earthmoving… and her family too for all their support.

Updates from Speedway Australia

Drivers Racing Multiple Divisions

A reminder to Clubs and Divisions to make drivers aware of their licencing requirements when they plan on competing across multiple divisions.
Should a driver wish to compete in more than one division, for example – RSA 4 Cylinder Sedans and Outlaw Sedans, they will be required to hold the licence Class relevant to their highest chosen division (in this example, an A Licence). They will also be required to have each of their chosen divisions listed on their licence card.
Listing multiple divisions is simple and doesn’t cost anything extra. It is recommended these be selected when renewing a licence, however, should you already hold a licence and need another division added for an upcoming event, this can be done via the licence portal using the ‘Upgrade Licence’ tab.

Live Streaming & Video Coverage: The Venue Operators Rights!

We all know that video footage is a useful tool for all facets of the industry, but it’s important to note that the ultimate decision around the use and distribution of video footage of a race meeting rests with the venue operator. Divisions, race teams and fans turn up to a track that is managed and guided by a venue operator who has to balance their own needs and requirements to generate income versus the desire for instant availability of information. And therefore, they are entitled to make their own decisions around the use of Facebook Live, a free or paid livestream that they or a divisional body provide, or any other form of information transmission out of the venue.
For example, this week Latrobe and Hobart Speedway’s in Tasmania have clarified their position as follows: –
You may film the races, but you can only post them to a public forum or social media at the end of the meeting. No live streaming.
Clear and simple, and also enforceable. If you are unsure of what a track offers in this regard, or what their policy might be, then get in touch with them directly.

This newsletter is planned to be published once a month. Although put out by the RSA, just like the RSA, it is for all our Clubs and their Members! We will endeavour to keep everyone up-to-date with what’s happening in our Association with articles from our Committee Members, information on upcoming events and important information from Tracks, Promoters and even Speedway Australia. We will feature stories on drivers and club members too.

But It’s More Than Just That!

It is a great avenue for Clubs to publicize upcoming happenings, Club news, special events, just about anything you want to get the word out about.

Once shared to Social Media, and like lots of our other posts, this will get picked up by multiple other Social Media accounts and shared around. In the past, some of our posts have reached thousands of people. I urge all our Clubs to get involved and make use of the leverage we have through this website and associated Social Media accounts. Make use of this avenue to promote your events and happenings and we can all grow together.

WISHING EVERYONE A SAFE & MERRY CHRISTMAS

As the unbelievable year that was 2020 draws to a close, as we gather together with those we hold dear, our family and friends and looking back to what has been the most remarkable year in living memory, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported and assisted us.

With the new year quickly approaching, we all look to the future and just what it might bring. Racing Sedans Australia is committed to continuing to come together and move forward. State and Australian Titles have been scheduled throughout the rest of this season and, along with the assistance of our promoters and clubs, we will do all we can to stay flexible and agile as we enter into the second half of Season 20-21.

But for the next couple weeks speedway takes a back seat to family and friends as we celebrate Christmas and New Year. The RSA office will close on the 23rd of December and re-open on the 4th of January, although, the email, secretary@racingsedansaustralia.com will be monitored.

RSA wishes everyone a safe, memorable and Merry Christmas & Prosperous New Year!

"RACING SEDANS eNews"

Over the last few seasons, there have been discussions about the RSA putting together a “Newsletter” in an effort to keep our members, affiliate clubs as well as the general public up-to-date with what’s been happening “Behind the Scenes” with the committee and support crews. Time restraints, however, prevented this happening.

This season, our new president Geff Rose, without prior knowledge of previous plans, also thought it might be a “good idea” to have a newsletter. So the birth of “Racing Sedans eNews” is the result! Racing Sedans eNews is planned as a monthly newsletter covering most events both in the past month and what’s coming up in the month following. We hope to have as much input from the committee with articles about what they have been working on, as well as interesting stuff from the clubs that wish to send stories into me, the media officer.

Upcoming State and Australian Titles

With the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions, just this afternoon it became necessary to POSTPONE the RSA 4-cylinder Sedan NSW State Title.

This decision was made after discussions with the Nowra Speedway Club and was not arrived at lightly. The running of and completion of our annual titles marks important points in time for us, our clubs and our drivers. Please be assured that we, along with the hosting clubs will continue to work hard to run all titles that are humanly possible in season 20-21.

At this point in time, we still have 3 Titles scheduled across January and February.

Online nominations are already available for

Limited Sedans QLD State Title to be held at Lockyer Valley Speedway on the 16th January
Fender Bender (Div2) NSW State Title to be held at Gunnedah Speedway on the 6th February

The Street Stockers Australian Title is scheduled to be held at Grafton Speedway on the 13th February and we expect online nominations to be available in the first few days of January.

Meet our New President

Hi to all members, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Geff Rose and I have been elected to the position of president of the RSA at the last AGM.

Firstly, I would like to thank the outgoing committee for their time and effort. I would like to thank Darren Cassidy as outgoing president/vice president. You have done an extremely hard job in these times and I am sure a lot of members would agree in thanking you for all your work.

Thank you to the new committee for putting your hands up for the upcoming year. I think with lots of communication and openness we can take RSA to the next level.

The last 6 months has been extremely trying in the speedway fraternity due to unforeseen circumstances. I think it is going to be a trying year as things may change on a daily basis. Please be patient as we try to do our very best.

A little bit about myself. I have been racing now for about 17 years, starting off in “RSA Streeters” and won the last NSW title in that division. I then stepped up to “Street Stockers” and raced there for 7 years in a XF Falcon. I then took a break from racing so I could concentrate on my son’s racing.

I came back racing 3 years ago and decided to step up to “V8 Dirt Modifieds”. I still own my XF and dragged it back into the shed again for this season. All of my kids have raced in speedway and started out in Junior Sedans and one of them now races “V8 Dirt Modifieds” and my daughter has just stepped up from “Junior Sedans” to “RSA 4-Cylinders”.

A few things I would like members to keep in mind. I am a business owner of a business that operates 7 days a week, 24hrs a day. Every member of the executive committee work and have other commitments. The positions they have taken on are volunteer positions and we all give up a lot of our time for the betterment of the association and sport, so please be patient. We mightn’t give you an answer/response straight away, but we will respond.

I am available by phone on 0432 707 527 so If you would like to have a chat please give me a call. I am going to give all clubs’ a call but it takes time so please be patient. If you have something that you would like discussed by the executive committee, please contact your secretary so it can be sent into the association.

Lastly thank you for giving me the opportunity of being the president I hope we can all make RSA great again. Bring on the 20/21 season.

New Logbooks and Registration Decals

In the recent weeks and as a result of more logbooks and rego decals being required, the committee has taken the opportunity to upgrade our rego decals. No longer will we be issuing the business card sized laminated rego decals of the past that were cable tied to the rollcage. The new rego decals are in fact a high quality exterior use vinyl sticker. These are to be placed inside the cab in an area that is easily seen when standing beside your car. They feature the RSA Logo placed on a background made up of the club logos of every affiliated club and each has the number printed on them to correspond with its logbook.

The logbooks have only been altered slightly. One of these alterations is that they now have white covers. The cover colour is expected to remain the same season on season. As there are many of the older style logbooks and decals in circulation only new registrations will be issued the new book and decal. The old-style will remain ok for use until next season.

So if your club still has some of these that have not yet been issued please continue to use them until they run out.

News from the Office

New Database under development

In an effort to better store and record important information such car registrations and officials information, a major effort has been undertaken to compile a complete database with all the relevant information stored securely in the one place.

Titles Sub-Committee Underway

Over time as the number of RSA divisions has grown it has become more difficult for the small RSA committee to be as hands-on as they would prefer to be when it comes to the preparation and running of the state and Australian titles. The committee has pulled together a few volunteers that will be helping in these processes moving forward and to those people we say, thank you.

As the result of a committee meeting and with discussion with Arrested Graphics and Web Solutions, our IT Support people, the development of an “online Daylight/Green Sheet” system has begun. This will streamline the annual task of registering our cars and create a multi-level database for the safe storage of all the information which can be accessed by authorised people from any location and will update all information in “real-time”.

Tech Committee Review of Divisional Spec Books

The RSA specification books are a collection of documents that have been, over the years amended and updated by numerous people in an effort to keep these books as up-to-date as possible. Now that there are 7 spec books, one for each of our recognised race divisions a more unified approach is required. The Tech Committee, under the direction of Jamie Smith, chair of the Tech Committee, are currently examining the books with a view to gain parity across the sections that are common in each book. This task has been in the sights of previous committees but time restraints have meant it wasn’t completed. Let’s all hope that this huge task can be completed this time around.

The changes and updates being done are only those which concern amendments to bring our books in line with the safety directions as stated in the latest Speedway Australia guidelines.

RSA Working Together with speedway australia

Racing Sedans Australia together with Speedway Australia are working closely to upgrade and improve the Online Accreditation system.

Creation of complete club contact database

Our secretary, Sue Healey, has been working behind the scenes to build a comprehensive contact list, a database of contact information that allows for ease of access to all the relevant contact details required in the day to day operation of the RSA. These details are such things as the correct contact details for clubs and their presidents and secretaries, contact information for promoters and tracks as well as usual State and Federal Government depts.

Online Access to all RSA official paperwork

Our IT Support, over the next few months leading up to next season, is working on online versions of all our official paperwork. Documents such as our constitution, club affiliation forms and digital versions of club contact details update forms. This process is being done in collaboration with the RSA secretary.

Development of a more organised Spec submissions system

Shortly after our last AGM and as a result of multiple years of poor to read, badly worded specification change submissions, usually lacking enough information to action them, the committee has approved an online process. This system will allow, at the appropriate time of the season, for specification changes to be submitted through the correct channels and processes to allow the collation and distribution of the submissions to all relevant clubs to vote on.

This system does not in any way change the fact that all specifications, as previously, need to be voted on by the affiliate clubs and ratified an the AGM. The idea of the system is to better supply these submissions in an organised, formatted process so that we can all make better use of them and understand them more clearly.

This system is planned to be in operation for the end of season 2020-21.

Collection of your personal data

As part of the updating of our systems, the way we go about achieving things in this modern time, we occasionally need to store your information. Our IT Support has had this covered ever since the construction of our website.

Recently, as part of the online nomination forms and to enable the fast transfer of funds such as prize money, tow money or refunds, we have started to collect your basic bank account details. Now these details in and of themselves are never going to allow a “hacker” or alike to get your money from your accounts but rather identity thieves use this information as just one small piece in building fake identities.

Our website and the Australian based servers on which they are stored are fully secured and both the servers and the website run multi-level active security across all the systems constantly. Furthermore, our website in 100% AAP compliant. But as per Australian law, it is up to you whether you supply your details or choose not to. At eery stage you will be asked whether you agree to the storage of your personal data and you are quite free to choose the no option. Please just keep in mind that if you choose “No”, any funds to be paid to you will be done by cheque which will be written after the event and then posted to you.

With all this talk of databases and online forms and systems, I would like to take some time to assure you that everything being collected is stored securely in the cloud!

Cloud storage, as most of you would know, is not a new thing. It is the preferred way to securely store large amounts of information in one place. Some of the benefits are that it overcomes the chances of a computer meltdown causing the total loss of precious information. It allows those who are approved access to the information on any device from any location anyway 24/7.

Three New Clubs Welcomed to the RSA Family

Lockyer Valley Speedway Club

Just as last season drew to a close Lockyer Valley Speedway Club the club that promotes Lockyer Valley Speedway, located at the showgrounds in Gatton Qld, approached Racing Sedans Australia to begin the process to affiliate with us. The club is interested in building car numbers for the Fender Benders (Div2) and Junior Sedans. Outlaw Sedans and Limited Sedans have been racing at their track for a few seasons now and the Gatton based club is poised to hold the first-ever Limited Sedan Qld State Title in mid-January.

Wagga Speedway Club

Joining the RSA Family for season 2020-21, is Wagga Speedway Club. Based in Wagga NSW and racing at the Illabo Motorsport Park in NSW, WSC will be another new base for RSA.

Beginning with RSA Outlaw Sedans, Limited Sedans and Street Stockers for this season. We hope that in the coming seasons’ other divisions such as 4-Cylinder Sedans and Junior Sedans will also frequent their events.

Leeton Motor Sports Club

We also have had the great pleasure of welcoming yet another club into our family. Leeton Motor Sports Club is located in the Riverina region of Southern New South Wales.

The Leeton Motor Sports Club was founded in 1976 and is now the 20th club in the RSA affiliated family. We are both honoured and privileged to call you part of the family.

Australia Day Long Weekend

This Australia Day long weekend sees this season’s running of the RSA Street Stocker Australian Title at Gilgandra Speedway. Running over 2 nights, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th this event is building up to be massive. Nominations continue to roll in and will stay open for just a few more days with the opportunity to nominate closing at 6pm this Saturday 12th of January. With the current Australia #1 Shane Carlson already nominated and other movers and shakers like Davoodi, Wakeman, Marino and Eveleigh nominated as well, this is going to be a battle to the final chequer! With the final format to be released shortly after nominations close there will be no doubt that both Saturday and Sunday nights will be action-packed as the best of the best hussle for a good starting position for the Title Feature.

Heaps of Support on the Program

Not to take away from the title, there will be lots of other divisions at this event and some pretty special drivers taking part in some awesome racing, all fighting to take the win on the night. This Australia Day long weekend event will also see support divisions such as the RSA Outlaw Sedans putting on a loud V8 show for the crowds. There will also be the running of the “Michael Harland Memorial – Bendy 1500” with the RSA Fender Benders and the RSA Junior Sedans will also make an appearance as well.

Support not just on the Track

As usual, the Gilgandra Speedway Club will be looking after all the locals as well as guests to the venue for the long weekend. Camping at the track for your stay there is welcomed and the club is even supplying that FREE! To show your gratitude for their wonderful offer, please take advantage of the “Egg. Bacon and Coffee” breakfast put on by the club for only a small charge. What a great way to fill your fuel tanks each morning before the exciting events to come.

Racing Sedans Australia 2018-19 Street Stocker Australian Title

It’s Time!

This Australia Day Long Weekend, Racing Sedans Australia in conjunction with Gilgandra Speedway Club, will present this season’s running of the Street Stockers Australian Title.

Over both Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of January, Drivers from everywhere will compete in this massive event to decide just who will be this season’s champion.

Season 2017-18 Champion

Last season at Valvoline Raceway, in excess of 50 cars fought it out to decide the Title. Western Sydney Street Stockers Club played host to drivers from all over. The day was a hectic one with multiple groups competing in three rounds of heats to fight their way to the main event. By the end of the feature and after the lead being held in the later stages by Shaun Davoodi in his Commodore, the event of a shower in the dying stages of the race saw Shane Carlson’s Falcon come to the fore with his Ford coping with the wet track to take the win and the Australian Title.

This Time Around

So far this season Saturday Nights have seen some fast running competition with some strong finishes from some of the regulars and a few unexpected drivers as well! Drivers like Brendan Wakeman, Shaun Davoodi, Chris Marino, Shane Carlson have managed wins and places at their club rounds and Max Cotton in his newly built Monaro broke into the season with some very fast laps as he irons out the usual teething problems with a new car. Local track knowledge may also play a part in the final results with drivers like the Cartwright’s expected to compete. No matter how it goes, we will know by the end of racing on Sunday 27th of January just who was fast enough across the 2 nights to be named this season’s Champion. Can Shane Carlson make it two in a row or will one of the others like Davoodi, Wakeman or Marino breakthrough? Only time and some fast close racing will give us the answer!

Nominations for this year's 4 Cylinder Sedans NSW State Title are out!

This Saturday, weather permitting, Nowra Speedway will play host to the 2018-19 Season’s running of the RSA 4 Cylinder Sedans NSW State Title. With a strong field of fast 4’s lining up to challenge for the prize, a new title holder is guaranteed. For although the current NSW #1 car will be in attendance, NSW Title Holder, Glenn Armstrong, has given his seat to his son Brock, therefore the State Champ will not be contesting the event.

The track will make a final decision concerning track condition after the near record rain the Nowra region has recieved this week at midday Friday 30th of November. Nowra Speedway will yet again play host to the RSA 4 Cylinder Sedans on Saturday the 1st of December when this season’s NSW State Champion will be crowned. Last season saw some great racing from a competitive field of 4 Cylinder Sedans with Glenn Armstrong from the Summerland Street Saloon Club based out of Lismore in Northern NSW finally claim the prize.

Who will Deserve the 2018-19 State Title?

With the new season upon us and both new and freshened up sedans ready and waiting to compete in this prestigious event, we can expect some great racing when our drivers take to the surface of Nowra Speedway!

Cassidy Claims the Prize at Tamworth

Big Birthday Win for the RSA President.

Last Saturday night Darren Cassidy was given the chance to take George Regent’s number 23 Street Stocker out for a run on the Tamworth dirt as a birthday present from George to Darren. Darren thanked George with a place on top of the podium by taking the Falcon over the line first for the win in the feature. What an awesome way to celebrate a birthday.

Cassidy, after a long break away from driving, leapt out of the gate quickly and was soon hot on the tailpipe of Max Cotton’s well presented Monaro in heat one until Cassidy showed some stunt driving skills by one of a doughnut or two coming around turn 2 chasing Max. Cotton went on to a convincing win in heat one but the Monaro suffered a few teething problems and finished the night there.

Cassidy’s nose in the front – just.

Darren Cassidy kept his nose up the front of the race pack for the rest of the night and earned himself a P2 start in the feature. Driving some tight lines down low Cassidy made it hard to get passed and even though he may not have been running the quickest times on the track, his driving style and positioning of the #23 Ford was such that his competitors just couldn’t find a way past.

The feature decided by milliseconds!

As the final flag fell for the night for the Street Stockers Cassidy had managed to keep the Goerge Regent #23 Ford Falcon just ahead of the “Platt Racing Wee Waa” Commodore for a close finish. An exciting end to a great night for the Stockers at Tamworth Speedway.

Swap one seat for another.

After the feature, Cassidy was asked how he was going to celebrate the win. He responded by saying, “driving back home for a good sleep, I’m stuffed after all the excitement”. Darren will now swap Saturday nights “racing seat” for the chair he is more used to these days as he returns to the duties required as the Racing Sedans Australia President and a member of the Board of Speedway Australia.

Our president showed just how true this is! Racing Sedans Australia was founded in 1984 on the ideals of starting a speedway association that was run by drivers and not executives. This rings true even today. I am not aware of many motorsport associations where the “head of the board” swaps their office chair for a spot behind the wheel on the track!

Racing Sedans Australia in conjunction with our Tech Committee, Volunteers and Help from our Media Crew, have now completed the season 2018-19 specification books for both RSA Fender Bender Divisions. Much interest from other states has been shown in the RSA Fender Benders over the off-season so we have not only updated the rules voted on at our AGM in August but also taken the time to “tidy up” the books as well. As technology has grown over the years from the days where we typed letters and posted them “snail-mail” to the creation of digital media and social media, associations like ours have been playing a constant game of “catch up”. The decision has been made to draw the line here on this website. Official stuff like specs and rules will be located Only on this site and where appropriate, links will be shared to social media.

Healey to Hammer the Clay at Dubbo

Almost a Bakers Dozen

Tonight at Morris Park Motor Sports Complex the Dubbo City Speedway Club will open their 2018-19 Season. On tonight’s program will be the always entertaining and surprising RSA Junior Sedans. Jaiden Healy, from Portland District Motor Sports Club along with Jackson Goldie, Tyler Barnes, Freddy Jones, Harrison Granger, the 2 Zac’s Hignett & Walker, both the Murphy boys, Jack and Liam and Makk O’Neil, Jackson Carey and Tyler Burnham will all take to the clay to do their best to put on some fast close racing and see just who will take the coveted chequer flag at night’s end.

These kids continue to show skills well ahead of their years. Not only on the track but in everything speedway that they do. As young ambassadors for our sport our future shines brightly in the eyes of the sensational young drivers.

The Adults get a turn too!

On the program tonight, some would say, as support for the RSA Juniors, are the Fast 4’s of the RSA 4 Cylinders, the hard runners of the RSA Street Stockers and the “bend ’em, bang ’em” RSA Fender Benders.

RSA Outlaw Sedans Debut

The thumping V’8 of the RSA Outlaw Sedans will open up on the clay tonight as well. This fast-growing RSA V8 Division has gained the interest of many racers old and new throughout NSW and Qld with interest shown in other states as well. Tonight it’s Dubbo’s turn to be entertained by these impressive sedans.

Not just RSA

To be fair to all, I should mention that the exciting AMCA Nationals and the Hard Charging Production Sedans will also have a run tonight to help complete and entertaining and event filled night of racing in Dubbo.
